Dear Friends of E Recycling Kauai
  
            We are all watching the County of Kauai elections, you know that mayor Carvalho has said “the recycling program is on track”.  There is the hazardous house hold waste collection the hazardous house holds waste motor oil collection the hazardous house holds paint collection and the hazardous house hold electronic waste collection.  I like you would like to see the year round collection of electronic hazardous waste.    
 
            What is common about all the hazardous house hold collection is that they are all done once a year.    The electronic hazardous waste collection of 2009 collected and sent 10 forty foot shipping containers to the mainland that is about 100 tons.   The problem with that is the math shows that we actually place over 20 tons a month into the Kekaha landhump (it’s a fill like the moon is made of green cheese).  That is 240 tons a year of electronic hazardous waste which is .3% of the 72,000 tons we put into the Kekaha landhump.     
 
            There are no free rides my parents always say.  The only thing that is free is my bad breath there is a $10.00 service fee for me to come to your house.  The money to do year round collection of electronic hazardous waste is already in the County’s Budget.  That is the money to do the once a year electronic hazardous waste collection.  What the County of Kauai needs to do is put out a bid for year round and if that is to high the county can go back to once a year collection of hazardous electronic waste. 
 
            There it is in a nut shell I hope that we all can agree.  No new money needs to be added to the budget.  What the citizens of Kauai get is a plan the will divert 240 tons of hazardous waste from the Kekaha Landhump.  What the citizen of Kauai will have a plan that will allow for the proper disposal of all electronic hazardous waste.
